Simply put, the user experience side of the design is focused around making it look nice, look engaging, intriguing, alluring and maintaining a nice experience for the user as they navigate your website or app.

The user interface is more focused around how things work, what happens when you hover over a button (does it change colour etc) what happens when you scroll here, what happens if you click on this or touch the screen here, swipe here etc. These are all designed within the UI side of the design process.

Both are equally important.

One keeps your users looking at your site or app, the other keeps them using it.
